Things We Should Have Said
- In the episode theme with fathers and daughters, there's an additional detail where Carol says she has to call her father for more money, and how humiliating it is. Even the supporting characters have established relationships off-screen in Mad Men. And the first line of this episode is from Don to Sally, which underscores the father/daughter theme.
- Ryan Cutrona plays Gene Hofstadt, Betty's father, and you might recognize him from General Hospital, 24, The West Wing, and Hot Shots.
- Allan Miller plays Abe Menken, Rachel's father, and you might recognize him from General Hospital, One Life to Live, Santa Barbara, Star Trek III, and every 70s and 80s show you heard of at the time but forgot that it existed, including Soap, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Dallas, and The Rockford Files.
- Joan talks to Roger about empathizing with Shirley MacLaine's character (an elevator operator) from The Apartment, and toward the end of the episode, Bert comments on Joan's relationship while asking her to push the elevator button for him.
