Mad Men Season One Favorite Episodes Poll

Here's a quick synopsis of each episode to review before you choose your favorite (scroll down to vote if you've already decided):

S1:E1  Smoke Gets in Your Eyes - Don struggles to come up with a campaign for Lucky Strike, Peggy gets through her first day at the office, Pete prepares for his bachelor party, and Roger asks Don to charm the Menken's department store clients.

S1:E2  Ladies Room - Betty's nervous condition is apparent in her shaking hands and she and Don dance around the possibility of psychiatry, Peggy deals with unwanted advances in the workplace, and Don uses the Gillette campaign to process what women really want.

S1:E3  The Marriage of Figaro - Don and Betty host Sally's birthday party, and Helen Bishop is a gossipy treat for the guests. Pete returns from his honeymoon and feels like a new man, while Don visits Menken's department store with Rachel.

S1:E4  New Amsterdam - Trudy pushes Pete to buy a new apartment, although a visit to Pete's parents shows their determination to withhold both financial and emotional support. Betty babysits for Helen Bishop, and Pete contributes his own copywriting ideas to the clients at Bethlehem Steel.

S1:E5  5G - A visitor claiming to be Don's long-lost brother shows up at the office, and Don receives him with a mix of denial, determination, and curiosity. Ken's short story success produces envy in Pete (because of course it does), and Peggy struggles with the idea that part of her job is keeping secrets she'd rather not know.

S1:E6  Babylon - Peggy impresses Freddy Rumsen at a brainstorming session for Belle Jolie, while Joan and Roger discuss their future. Don meets Rachel for lunch to discuss the Israeli tourism campaign, and Don and Betty reflect about Mother's Day. Don is less than impressed with Midge and her Bohemian friends.

S1:E7  Red in the Face - If you're not sure what a Chip and Dip is, Pete can explain it to you. When Joan turns Roger down for the evening, Roger wrangles a last-minute invitation to Don and Betty's house for dinner, invading more than their evening plans. Bert is ready to woo the Republican team supporting Nixon's presidential campaign, and Don and Roger indulge at a business lunch, with memorably disastrous results.

S1:E8  The Hobo Code - Flashbacks show us Don's past, including a traveling visitor who leaves an impression. Peggy's Belle Jolie copy is a hit, and the entire office goes out to celebrate, while Sal has an enjoyable evening with the client. Peggy and Pete re-visit their relationship. 

S1:E9  Shoot - As McCann-Erickson tries to convince Don to leave Sterling Cooper, Betty gets the opportunity to model for Coca Cola and be something other than a wife and mother for a little while. Pete gets an idea to help the Nixon campaign, while everyone in the office feels entitled to judge Peggy's weight gain.

S1:E10  Long Weekend - While the families are away at the beach, Roger convinces Don to spend the evening with twins auditioning for the Bethlehem Steel commercial. Betty is hurt that her father has a new girlfriend, Joan's roommate makes a confession, and Don continues to pursue Rachel Menken.

S1:E11  Indian Summer - Lonely at home, even a visit from the air conditioning salesman seems like an event in Betty's day. Roger returns to this office too soon after his heart attack, and he and Joan seem to be at the end of their relationship. Peggy gets a new writing assignment at work, but it turns out to be awkward to discuss with her boss. Don and Rachel talk about possibilities for their future.

S1:E12  Nixon vs. Kennedy - An epic office party on election night leads to drunken trysts and massive hangovers. Pete confronts Don with secret information about his past, and threatens to reveal all unless Don champions Pete for a promotion to head of accounts. A flashback shows us how Dick Whitman became Don Draper; always moving forward, even after things blow up with Rachel.

S1:E13  The Wheel - Duck Phillips is ready to bring in new business at Sterling Cooper, and Pete delivers with the Clearasil account from his father-in-law. Don delivers an epic presentation for Kodak, drawing on images from his picture-perfect family even as his relationship crumbles. Francine seeks Betty's advice when she discovers Carlton is cheating on her, which prompts Betty to discover a different type of infidelity. Peggy gets promoted to the position of junior copywriter, but a stomach ache takes her to the hospital, where she gets impossible news.
